Timeless pieces never go out of fashion…

Recently I’ve been in the process of doing some deep deep cleaning when it comes to my clothing and accessories inventory. I’m doing this for two reasons: 1.) I have TOO much stuff! and 2.) I’ve decided to start an eBay business to start sharing with the world all my fabulous thrift store finds. Though it’s nearing fall, I felt a ‘spring cleaning’ was in order and went through everything to see what I should either keep, donate, or put up on the new eBay store.

Somewhere along the pillaging of my dresses something magical happened. I began discovering long lost loves, aka dresses I had totally forgotten about. My style over all is pretty timeless/classic and this was apparent when I stumbled across a dress I bought 9 years ago at Crossroads Trading Company. It is the epitome of classic style (White House Black Market brand) and when I slipped it on I felt just as lovely in it today as I did when I bought it all those years ago. I was brought back to a time when I wore it in New York to the MET Opera House. That was a pretty magical night filled with opera, a lovely Chagall painting, 5 course dinner, love, and my beautiful black and white strapless dress. I remember thinking how I felt like Audrey Hepburn that night.

The dress is a White House Black Market brand dress and made impeccably. I’m so thankful that I found it again this weekend and had the opportunity to re fall in love with it. A dress like this will be beautiful yesterday, today, and forever….it’s definitely a keeper!

If you are interested in my new eBay store you can click on this link to see what I have up! I only have a few things right now, but many more to come: http://my.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?MyEbayBeta&CurrentPage=MyeBayNextSelling&ssPageName=STRK:ME:LNLK:MESEX

Outfit: White House Black Market dress from Crossroads, ($15) Chandelier earrings from Deseret Industries, ($3) Patent leather clutch from Deseret Industries, ($3) and black pumps from Freestyle Clothing Exchange ($15)

TIP: Some key pieces I suggest investing in while thrifting are classic pieces like the dress I have on here. Another style of dress that I can’t get enough of are wrap dresses. I still have a wrap dress from when I was 18! You can never go wrong with a nice black and white print, too.

Hello XOXO Clothing Swap recap – I sure love free clothes, don’t you love free clothes?!

What’s better than finding that amazing high end piece for next to nothing? Well, it’s finding that high end piece for free!

I’m the queen of searching high and low for the most incredible fashion on a shoe string budget and what I love nothing more is finding phenomenal pieces for FREE. Did you say free Phoebe? Why yes I did :)

A couple of weeks ago I helped coordinate a charity clothing swap through a woman’s group I belong to called Hello XOXO. Hello XOXO is an all-inclusive nest where ladies of all ages come together to enrich themselves and their community through philanthropy, mentoring, book and supper clubs, deep conversations, all while exploring their inner artisan. I had the idea months ago of throwing a fun clothing swap where all that was asked to get in the door was a $5 donation and a bag of gently used clothing. I had quite the amazing group of girls helping me set up, organize the clothes, and collect the donated money. A portion of the money we raised was donated to WEAVE, our chairty of choice, and all the left over clothes went to the organization as well.

Needless to say, the event was very successful and we are planning on doing another one come fall. Because I was working most of the event, I didn’t grab a ton of stuff. I also told myself that I have plenty and it’s better if others get the amazing items, not me! :) I was still able to get a few cute pieces though. You know I can’t leave a clothing swap with out anything, that would be a travesty! I found a cute Forever 21 colorful dress, tie dyed dress, Ann Taylor striped sweater and linen pants. (All pictured below) I also found some great work out clothes!

Can’t wait for our next one, but in the meantime here are a few of my favorite clothing swap finds and pictures of the event. It was so fun to get a huge group of amazing women together and exchange not only amazing clothes, but amazing conversation, and inspiration…

A BIG thank you to Lucca Restaurant and Silk Road sodas for providing the food and drink for the event. Also, a big thank you to Freestyle Clothing Exchange, Deseret Industries, and SPCA thrift for donating clothes! From all of us over at Hello XOXO, we thank you!!!

Also, check out Hello XOXO for all of our amazing classes and events. We’ll also post our next clothing swap on there, too. http://helloxoxo.com/Image

When life gives you lemons make lemonade!

Oh how I’ve missed thee – ‘thee’ is making a point to write on here more often than once a week. I love writing, creating, and sharing with the world my thoughts, ideas, and art through my clothing. Life gets BUSY and all of a sudden it’s been 9 days since I’ve written! But, I’m here now and that’s all that matters…

I love the expression “when life gives you lemons make lemonade.” What that signifies is the fact that life can be difficult, tricky, and straight hard. But, with a little bit of sugar, or what I like to call optimism, those bitter tasting experiences you are going through will turn sweet and teach you a valuable lesson.

Life is pretty even keel right now and I like that. I don’t know if it’s because I picked up yoga a couple of months back, or if my perception has changed realizing that no matter what, everything will be ok. Am I a millionaire with out a money care in the world? Hell no! I’m what they call broke and fabulous and proud of it! I know with continued hard work,  the money will eventually come. Just as long as I have a roof over my head, (very grateful to have my own apt) food in my belly, and enough money to allow me an antique faire or thrifted dress on occasion then I’m happy.

I have so many projects going on right now that I sometimes feel like a chicken with it’s head cut off. But, I would never in a million years complain because of how frickin’ grateful I am for all that is happening. Plus, I just love all the challenges! It’s when I grow the most and learn. The lessons I’m learning are to be more organized, not stress out, work hard, and always give what ever I’m involved in 110%.

I will update all of you with the happenings in my life in another blog post and I promise it will be sooner than 9 days! As for now, enjoy some fun photos of thrifty looks ranging from summer wear on Good Day Sac to a recent blog post from Thrift Town. Check out my blog post for Thrift Town here: http://networkedblogs.com/NYeoc

Thank you to everyone who has followed and believed in me through out this journey, means the world to me…

Love,

The Dress Fiend

1.) Freestyle Clothing Exchange is where I got all the clothes and about 1/2 the shoes. They are BOMB DOT COM and you have to go and check them out on the corner of 21st and L st in Midtown Sac. Or go to freestyleclothing.com/ for one of their other locations!

2.) SPCA thrift is where I got almost all the accessories and the other 1/2 of the shoes. Have I mentioned how much I love this little store in between 15th and 16th on E st in Downtown Sac? The BEST prices and such fun stuff! They also have 1/2 off sales going on for August. Blue and green tags are 1/2 off this month! Check out their FB page: https://www.facebook.com/SSPCAThriftStore

Here’s a sneak peak at what I’m working on for my next blog post. It’s all about the charity Hello XOXO clothing swap from last weekend! I found such great things. We will be having another clothing swap this fall, stay tuned!

Feeling grateful

I’m feeling grateful these days for all that I have, not all that I ‘should have.’ The ‘should haves’ are the toxicities of life that never allow you to truly grow into your own authentic self. When we ponder around wishing that our lives were different, that if we only had more money, or if I only had what she has; we can make ourselves sick both physically and spiritually. I say this not out of observation, but from personal experience. This evening was a beautiful reminder that I am exactly where I am supposed to be right now and with continued hard work, dedication, and passion I will preserver over all other destructive thoughts or behaviors.

I had the most lovely time this evening with a new girlfriend I met recently. To talk life, truth, and mutual love for fashion was exactly what I’ve been needing. Maybe I’m getting older, but I don’t much care for the chit chat anymore and would much rather be myself. The conversation with my new friend reminded me to always remain grateful and humble.

Thank you new friend for talking ‘real talk’ with me. Tonight was such a great night – I just had to write about it and share my attitude of gratitude for life today.

My friend and I talked about how clothing is so much more than just a dress; it’s about style! We also talked about times when we couldn’t afford to shop and how we were forced to take a closer look at what we already had. Those challenges made us better dressers and in turn, more unique. I’m thinking a little no shopping challenge may be on the horizon soon – Stay tuned!

Cobalt blue with a splash of rainbow…

– Something to think about: Orange and blue are beautiful together! (My shoes are a dark orange here and dress a colbalt blue) They are opposites on the color wheel and look mighty spectacular together in my opinion :)

Dress is by Guess and thrifted at Freestyle Clothing Exchange for $18, shoes $8 there as well. Necklace and bracelet the Momma made.  (She’s the Jack of all Trades – she can sew, make jewelry, crochet, knit – what can’t she do?!)

P.S. The makeup is by Wet & Wild – cheap, fun, and great quality! Seriously their liquid eye liners and lipsticks are my favs.

Love,

The Dress Fiend
