Today was a “Good Day”

Every time I go on Good Day Sacramento to do one of my thrifted fashion TV segments I am just as grateful that day as I was the first time I went on 15 months ago. I’ve become pretty good … Continue reading

Momma’s to be: Style, thrifting, & tips for looking your best while pregnant

Last week’s Maternity Wear segment on Good Day Sacramento was one of my favorite looks I’ve put together since I started doing the show last November. All three girls definitely had that pregnancy ‘glow’ and made my Parisian/nautical vision an … Continue reading

When life gives you lemons make lemonade!

Oh how I’ve missed thee – ‘thee’ is making a point to write on here more often than once a week. I love writing, creating, and sharing with the world my thoughts, ideas, and art through my clothing. Life gets BUSY and all of a sudden it’s been 9 days since I’ve written! But, I’m here now and that’s all that matters…

I love the expression “when life gives you lemons make lemonade.” What that signifies is the fact that life can be difficult, tricky, and straight hard. But, with a little bit of sugar, or what I like to call optimism, those bitter tasting experiences you are going through will turn sweet and teach you a valuable lesson.

Life is pretty even keel right now and I like that. I don’t know if it’s because I picked up yoga a couple of months back, or if my perception has changed realizing that no matter what, everything will be ok. Am I a millionaire with out a money care in the world? Hell no! I’m what they call broke and fabulous and proud of it! I know with continued hard work,  the money will eventually come. Just as long as I have a roof over my head, (very grateful to have my own apt) food in my belly, and enough money to allow me an antique faire or thrifted dress on occasion then I’m happy.

I have so many projects going on right now that I sometimes feel like a chicken with it’s head cut off. But, I would never in a million years complain because of how frickin’ grateful I am for all that is happening. Plus, I just love all the challenges! It’s when I grow the most and learn. The lessons I’m learning are to be more organized, not stress out, work hard, and always give what ever I’m involved in 110%.

I will update all of you with the happenings in my life in another blog post and I promise it will be sooner than 9 days! As for now, enjoy some fun photos of thrifty looks ranging from summer wear on Good Day Sac to a recent blog post from Thrift Town. Check out my blog post for Thrift Town here: http://networkedblogs.com/NYeoc

Thank you to everyone who has followed and believed in me through out this journey, means the world to me…

Love,

The Dress Fiend

1.) Freestyle Clothing Exchange is where I got all the clothes and about 1/2 the shoes. They are BOMB DOT COM and you have to go and check them out on the corner of 21st and L st in Midtown Sac. Or go to freestyleclothing.com/ for one of their other locations!

2.) SPCA thrift is where I got almost all the accessories and the other 1/2 of the shoes. Have I mentioned how much I love this little store in between 15th and 16th on E st in Downtown Sac? The BEST prices and such fun stuff! They also have 1/2 off sales going on for August. Blue and green tags are 1/2 off this month! Check out their FB page: https://www.facebook.com/SSPCAThriftStore

Here’s a sneak peak at what I’m working on for my next blog post. It’s all about the charity Hello XOXO clothing swap from last weekend! I found such great things. We will be having another clothing swap this fall, stay tuned!

Good Day Sacramento ‘fake’ glasses segment inspired by celebrities

Just wanted to do a quick blog post on the Good Day Sac segment I did last Saturday inspired by ‘fake’ glasses celebrities are wearing. There’s a big trend currently where celebrities are wearing non prescription glasses just as an added accessory bonus. I’m not one to follow every trend, but I do love a good pair of fake glasses. (I’ve always wanted to wear real ones) See, I have perfect vision, but really poor hearing. Seriously, I’m half deaf in my right ear and they just don’t make as cute of hearing aids as they do glasses. Maybe one day I’ll get a hearing aid with Swarovski crystals on it – I’ll just embrace the aid with a little bling ;)

Back to the glasses…. It was a fun segment and my four models did a great job representing the celebrities that the fashion and glasses were based off of. The celebs I choose that are known currently for sporting the fakes are Zooey Deschanel, Katy Perry, Ryan Gosling, and Justin Timberlake. (Actually, my JT could have easily been Pharrell as well – he was so perfect for both!) My glasses were based off of Jennifer Aniston or Anne Hathaway.

Here are some fun pics, where I got the clothes/glasses, and the the video clip! Also, Amanda Nichole, who played my Katy Perry, did such a fantastic job on her makeup that I just had to share her link.  She’s also an amazing model and photographer. Check out her site!

Good Day Sacramento Plus Size segment

I’m totally late at putting where I got all the plus size clothing from last weekend’s Good Day Sacramento segment! Shame on me!

It was such a great experience and I was just thrilled to show the wonderful women of Sac that there really are great thrift stores that carry plus size clothing. And it’s not just junky clothes, but super cute and stylish instead!

Thank you to everyone who watched and sent me such nice comments after the show – warmed my heart…

If any of you have questions about what looks good on your body type, PLEASE feel free to write and ask me. I love nothing more than showing people how to look their best!

Great Gatsby inspired thrifted fashion show on Good Day Sacramento 5/11/13

Such a fun morning! I always love going on Good Day Sacramento, but especially this morning! I have such an affinity for the 20’s era of fashion and was especially inspired by the new Great Gatsby movie that came out last night.

I love the high attention to glamour, sequins/beading, and accessories – especially the headwear. I take a lot of pride in what I do and went out of my way to find some of the best Gatsby inspired clothing and accessories. Since today was a double segment, I decided to do a more feminine/soft flapper-esque lineup for the first segment and a more dramatic/dark evening look for the second. The first 4 girls had on light pink, tan, and sequin numbers that all went to the knee or slightly above. So fun and perfect for dancing, say the Charleston perhaps? ;) The 2nd group of girls had on more elegant looks ranging from floor length, (with a turban!) to a silk pleated skirt and blouse with a tassel, and an Egyptian inspired gold and black dress. (also popular in the 20’s) I, too, wore two different looks and did a fun short beaded number with a beaded head piece and a more elegant long silk velvet dress with a vintage stole. (My sweet Momma made the silk velvet dress 20 years ago – though not thrifted, I thought appropriate to honor her and her talented sewing skills for Mother’s Day)

My makeup artist Jessica Schubert did a fantastic job on the girls!!! I highly recommend using her for your next photo shoot and or wedding :)  You can find her information at: https://www.facebook.com/GlamOnTheGoCa

Two of my models are fellow fashion bloggers as well! I think they are just adorable and talented writers and fashionistas :) Go ahead and check them out! :

Lastly…If you are wondering where I got all these wonderful things? Well, look no further! Here’s a list and a lot of what you saw on today’s show will be going back to the store today and will be available shortly!

1.) Freestyle Clothing Exchange on 21st and L st. I LOVE this place with all of my fashion heart. Quite a few of the dresses are from here

2.) YSJ Vintage at 924 12 th st. They have some of the best vintage clothing in town! They are also opening a new store in Rocklin this upcoming week! Here’s the info:https://www.facebook.com/events/191852437630176/

3.) Firefly Exchange thrift is a super cute little thrift store located at 1910 P street. I always find awesome accessories there

4.) Thrift Town – I usually go to the one off of El Camino. Hands down one of the best thrift stores. Just the best prices out there.

5.) Cuffs is located at 2523 J street and has new and vintage pieces.

6.) Goodwill – I go to the one in between 16th and 17th on L st. It’s the boutique and has the best stuff! Their next big sale is Memorial Day where everything is 1/2 off starting at 8:30 am!

7.) The Sacramento Antique is the 2nd Sunday of the month and located under the freeway on 21st and X st. It’s tomorrow morning and you know I will be there!

8.) Sei Bella Boutique is an amazing consignment store located at 1950 Douglas Blvd. They not only have great contemporary pieces, but beautiful vintage pieces as well. And the prices are great, too! If you are in the Roseville area I highly suggest checking them out.

9.) Prevues has amazing vintage and newer thrifted pieces. The neat thing about this store is that they have costume attire as well. They are located on 2417 K st.

Here are a few picture highlights from the morning :)

Happy thrifting!
